The HLT57921 Diploma of Anaesthetic Technology and  Practice is a very practical, hands-on course, delivered in a face to face classroom format as well as in the simulated anaesthetic technology laboratory. The course is delivered over 2 years and includes a full time clinical placement in a hospital or clinic, organised by North Metropolitan TAFE. North Metropolitan TAFE has recently undertaken extensive industry consultation with hospitals in the metropolitan area to ensure our training was meeting the needs of the industry.  Anaesthetic technicians play a critical role in supporting the anaesthetist and the role requires a wide range of complex skills and extensive knowledge to perform safely and effectively in the workplace.  Following this consultation, the duration of the qualification was extended to 2 years.
